Reiki therapy is an amazing energy healing technique that originated in Japan. It involves the transfer of powerful energy from the healing practitioner to the patient through the laying of hands.
The word Reiki is made up of two words:
“Rei” which means God’s higher power
“Ki” which means Life force energy
Therefore, the word Reiki means God-directed or spiritually-guided life force energy. The powerful positive energy neutralizes any negative energy that is making the patient sick and enables healing to take place.
What Happens During a Reiki Therapy Session
Here is what you can expect from a full session performed by a professional Reiki practitioner.
The Reiki practitioner will have a dedicated quiet space for therapy, light a candle and play soft music during a session to drown out any ambient noise. The practitioner will explain the process and ask if you have any specific needs or problems. For example, you might have a problem lying flat on your back or front because of an injury.
During the session you remain fully clothed except for the shoes. You may lie on a therapy bed or sit comfortably in a chair. The practitioner offers light, non-invasive touch on a series of locations on the head, the front and back of the torso and the limbs. The touch is very light, neither intrusive nor unsuitable and there is no pressure and will last for 2 to 3 minutes at each spot.
Alternatively, the practitioner will hold the hands off the body without touching the patient.
While the practitioner holds the hands on or above the patient, the transfer of energy takes place and the practitioner’s hands may feel warm and/or tingling.
The Benefits of Reiki Therapy
Reiki will restore you holistically to a state of balance and harmony, i.e. it heals you mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically and encourages you to take an interest in your health and wellness.
The Origins of Reiki
Reiki is an ancient healing modality that has been practiced for thousands of years in Japan. Before Usui Sensei developed his style of Reiki that is popular today, there were more than four types of Reiki being used in Japan. In March 1922, Dr. Mikao Usui had a mystical experience in which he was given the Reiki energy and he developed his own style of Reiki which he called Usui Reiki Ryoho. By including the term “Reiki Ryoho” he was acknowledging the already existing Reiki Ryoho techniques. By including his name, he was indicating that this was his style of Reiki Ryoho.
Because of the destruction caused by the Second World War, the other forms of Reiki fell out of use, or remained unknown, while Usui Reiki continued to be used and became popular in the West. There have been many Reiki style healing methods that cannot be traced back to Usui Reiki but which use the same energy. Therefore, any healing modality that uses Reiki energy can be called Reiki.
What You Can Experience During a Session
What people experience during a Reiki therapy session differs from person to person. For some the session can be dramatic while for others it can be uneventful. Generally, people feel a lot of comfort from the session and they notice a difference afterwards.
The following are some of the experiences of people who received Reiki healing.
Experiences After the Session
Reiki treats the whole person at physical, emotional, spiritual and mental level bringing many benefits. Relaxation, clarity of mind, feelings of peace, security and wellbeing are quite common among recipients of Reiki Therapy. Miraculous healing of diseases of the physical body are also common. So those who had headaches and other problems get relief.
The effects of Reiki are cumulative, so those who do not notice anything during the first session usually have deeper experiences during subsequent sessions. Even though you might not feel anything during the session Reiki is at work within your body and you will notice changes later on. For example, you will begin to sleep better or you will be more poised or have better digestion.
About Ki or Life Force Energy
Reiki is the transfer of life force energy into the body of a patient.
Life force energy is not something that comes from afar but it flows continuously around us and within us. It is that which keeps us alive. Sometimes the flow of energy is interrupted, either blocked or reduced when changes take place in the body. As a result, certain parts of the body are denied life energy and we become sick. Healing with energy involves adding that energy back with the help of another person, and when energy flows again in the body and the affected parts of the body receive more energy, healing takes place.
So, what may cause blockages?
Blockages of energy can be caused by injuries, for example in an accident. Such injuries can result in chronic pain in certain parts of the body. At emotional level blockages can take place during trauma or when there is a lot of emotional hurts and abuse at some point in life, particularly during childhood. This can lead to emotional crippling and inability to be happy, or anger issues or feelings of insecurity. All these problems can never be effectively treated with drugs which is why they never go away for most people. Such problems require the unblocking of energy channels in the body, which is where Reiki Therapy comes in.
If you have health and emotional problems that you have failed to treat with drugs, it is time to try Reiki. It is simple and natural and very safe, even for babies. If you prefer to continue with allopathic medicines, or you are already going through another form of therapy, you can enhance their effectiveness by using Reiki.
